Please Describe Your Project In Detail | Training on Wheels with OZF is a concept where we would literally bring the gym to various schools in the community. Our OZF on the go vehicle will be equipped with several pieces of equipment so that we can properly train the kids right there on the school grounds. This project will not only be helpful with getting the kids active, but also help reduce crime and violence amongst youth in our community, in particular violence by giving them a positive outlet and allow them to release negative tension or aggression through physical activity. We feel like adding this concept to our community will not only help increase physical activity for the kids, but also help decrease risk of comorbidities such as, Diabetes, Hypertension, and Heart Disease. This concept would also be an opportunity to form a mentorship where we teach kids about setting goals, meeting challenges, and channeling their energy into positive activities. We would coordinate with various schools in the community and produce a schedule to provide various group fitness classes. We would choose a school once a week to attend and bring several different group fitness classes that the students could attend throughout the day. The classes would consist of aerobic activity where they are running, jumping and even dancing. We would also go to different neighborhoods where gun violence is most prevalent. |
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan | Training on Wheels with OZF meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan because this would be an effort to reduce and respond to violent crime – particularly gun violence – by investing in an exercise program that is proven to reduce crime. This year there has been a 16% surge in murders due to gun violence just in the first half of 2021. Gun violence rose between January and June of 2021 compared to the same period last year. While local community leaders are working towards eliminating gun violence in our community, we believe our program can help with lowering the statistics of gun violence amongst youth in Chattanooga. We would utilize this program and take Training on Wheels with OZF into different neighborhoods where gun violence is most prevalent. This will again, give the youth a positive outlet to channel their energy, reducing aggressive behaviors and decreasing impulsivity. |
