Please Describe Your Project In Detail | We will be opening a non-profit, low cost dental clinic in the next few weeks to serve the underserved in Chattanooga. We especially partner with non-profits such as addiction recovery, homeless, abuse recovery programs to provide dental care to those in programs or in need. Those in substance recovery are 2.5 times more likely to be successful if dental care is addressed. We will not only provide extractions, but also fillings, dentures and partials and even implants. This will be a residency program for newly graduated dentists to do a year of extra training. We are a sister clinic to Foundry Dental Center in Bessemer, AL, who has seen a great success in their program. |
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan | Lack of dental care is a huge public health issue. Tennessee is one of 3 states that doesn't provide dental extractions through Medicaid for adults. Many are suffering with dental infections, pain and tooth loss. Also, receiving dental care helps those in substance abuse recovery 2.5 times more likely to be successful. Being able to smile confidently will help in recovery, being able to get a job and just mental health and self esteem in general. |
Where would your project take place? | 1212 Dodds Ave |
How much will your project cost in total? | 1000000 |
Do you have any matching funding sources from other local governments, private entities, non-profits, or philanthropic entities for your project? | Yes |
Please describe the source and list amounts of any other funding. | We have received grants from the Maclellan foundation of $130,000 and the MacKenzie foundation of $150,000 for the buildout of our leased space and supplies and equipment. |
What portion of the project are you asking the city to fund? | We would like to ask for $500,000 from the city to pay for start up equipment and supplies and salaries for the first 2 years. That would include the dental residents, front desk personnel and assistants. The more support we have, the more patients we can treat at a very low cost. |
If funded, when would your project start? | December 13, 2021 |
How long would your project take to complete? | 4 weeks |
What milestones would you use to measure your project’s progress? | We would like to donate $1 million a year of free dental care. We will start with 2 residents, but with 4 residents we could treat about 150 patients a month who do not have access to dental care. |
How would you ensure accountability and transparency throughout the project lifecycle? | We have a board of directors who watch over the program. Also we have accountants who will be reviewing numbers. Our accounting will be available to be reviewed as well. |
If successful, how would your project benefit the community? | Not only will we treat those who are suffering from pain and infection while dealing with struggles of poverty, homelessness, abuse recovery, addiction recovery, we will also be able to give people their smile back. This is helpful in a physical and emotional sense, giving people a sense of self worth. Since people don't have dental care, they often present at emergency rooms for dental infection, where they can only be treated temporarily with antibiotics and pain medicine. Emergency rooms are not equipped to provide extractions or dental care. |
How will you attract community buy-in for your project? | We have been connecting with non-profits for the past 2 years who are very excited about the project. We also will have a website and social media posts to engage the community. Maclellan has provided a marketing person to help us with communications. |

Is there anything else you would like us to know about your project? | Dr. McCracken started the Foundry Dental clinic in Bessemer, AL 10 years ago and they have treated thousands of patients, trained numerous dental residents, trained dental assistants and hired those who have completed the Foundry Drug Rehab program. It is a great formula for success and we intend to model Revive Dental after this successful program. |
