Please Describe Your Project In DetailCopycat Salon is a full service salon that is unique because we match each service for someone in need. We also host community events through Cuts for Change at public locations along with partnering with local foundations such as Chattanooga Community Kitchen, MOMemtum Network, and Patten Towers. Cuts for Change is a nonprofit founded by Copycat Salon's owner, Shaina Ramsey, in 2018 while still a student at Aveda Institute of Nashville. It has since grown into a 501(c)(3) and provides pivotal services to Chattanooga's underserved community. Cuts for Change has provided over 1,000 free haircuts, 1,500 hygiene packs, provided 350 meals, and has registered 200 people to vote. We want to continue to host events safely with proper PPE and also expand our outreach to year-round access to our services and products to positively impact public health.
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue PlanThis funding will give communities who have been negatively impacted by Covid access to fundamental needs for hygiene and free hair services that restore dignity. It will also positively impact mental health by restoring dignity, providing essential needs, and in some cases providing a safe haven for domestic abuse victims. The project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan because it will not only provide funding to a business directly affected by Covid but also provide equipment to allow it to continue to serve the community safely with PPE to create a ripple affect of positive impact for the community.
Where would your project take place?Copycat Salon - 1306 S. Willow St.
How much will your project cost in total?20000
Do you have any matching funding sources from other local governments, private entities, non-profits, or philanthropic entities for your project? No
Please describe the source and list amounts of any other funding.
What portion of the project are you asking the city to fund?
If funded, when would your project start?March 1, 2022
How long would your project take to complete?A brick and mortar has already been secured and it would take about a month to acquire equipment, buy products, and build hygiene pantries.
What milestones would you use to measure your project’s progress?Three main things would be used to measure the project's progress. Square booking would be used to track analytics for all free services including what services were provided, gender, age, race/ethnicity, contact information, and referral source. A surveillance camera would be installed at each hygiene pantry to track number of community members using the service. Inventory would also be kept to measure how much product is needed to keep pantries fully stocked and what items are needed most. Community feedback is also a tool that would be used to measure progress and ways we could serve each individual community with specific needs.
How would you ensure accountability and transparency throughout the project lifecycle?I would ensure accountability and transparency through my already established board for Cuts for Change made up of a diverse group of community leaders and business owners.
If successful, how would your project benefit the community? The Cuts for Change project will benefit the community by providing essential hygiene products and hair services safely while also positively affecting the mental health of those greatly impacted by Covid.
How will you attract community buy-in for your project?Copycat salon has already attracted community buy in with the only funding ever received being in the format of community crowdfunding. We will continue to attract community buy in by being transparent with finances, sharing impactful stories of outreach, social media, and genuine connection.
