Please Describe Your Project In DetailCook it Up! Serve it Up! is a community-based cooking program for at-risk youth and families. We have discovered that there are limited occasions for youth to have healthy home-cooked meals in our community. Covid has shown a major need for healthy food choices in communities across Chattanooga and surrounding areas. Processed foods have been number one among at-risk youth and it is causing physical and emotional imbalances among youth. We would like to teach youth and young adults how to eat healthy meals and they can in turn go to their communities and feed others that we may not know healthy foods for their families as well.
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue PlanOur program meets the American Rescue Plan by providing education, training, and meals to provide for families across Chattanooga. This program creates an opportunity for youth-focused cooking programs to be developed, implemented, and evaluated with the goal of providing invaluable life skills and food literacy to this potentially vulnerable group. This 20-month community-based cooking program for at-risk youth will improve the development and progression of cooking skills, literacy, and help mitigate food disparities in our communities.
