Please Describe Your Project In Detail | Our project will be titled 40 men, 40 hours. This will be a 2 day men's retreat reinforcing the importance of mental health and value to men. The retreat will consist of 5 speakers and breakout group meetings covering affirmations, health and wellness, meditation, leadership skills, and mental awareness. We will also have leadership building activites. In an effort to give back to the community we will end the retreat with a gas drive at 2 inner city gas station. This will reinforce a positive outlook of men in the community and build upon the values promoted throughout the retreat. |
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan | The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a source of stress and have important mental health implications for all persons but may have unique implications for men. In June 2020, men reported slightly lower rates of anxiety than women, but had higher rates of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. As of September 2020, men sought mental health care at a higher rate than women for family and relationships, with year-over-year visits up 5.5 times and total virtual mental health care visits monthly growth in 2020 was up 79% since January. It is important to implement strategies for groups of men that may not be aware of resources or implications of how this new normal may be affecting their mental state. |
