Please Describe Your Project In DetailThe Urban Collective Presents: House of Hope Chattanooga
The Urban Collective’s House of Hope has been founded as a direct response to the communities of the Greater Chattanooga Area that have experienced negative economic impacts of COVID-19. Our mission is to lessen the economic disparities among the disadvantaged by providing a twenty-four-hour resource facility that will partner with other proven programs to reduce gun violence and offer behavioral health alternatives to substance abuse and experiences that have been traumatic.
The Urban Collective’s House of Hope will complete these goals by utilizing a two-fold method that will seek to proactively engage the youth before a violent crime can be committed and by assisting those who were once part of the penal system to return their talent in partnership for violence interruption and further community outreach. The program is also seeking to increase education/employment partnerships, mentorship and first time home ownership.
Once a referral from the juvenile or police department is received, the client will be assisted according to the following:
Tier 1: Individuals considered at-risk, but having low needs. They may only need direction from a mentor, encouragement, and/or minimal financial support and exhibit no major concern for potential to reoffend.
Tier 2: Individuals considered at-risk with medium to mid-level needs. These individuals may struggle with various barriers (joblessness, low to no education (GED), fines, pending court issues, lack of proper legal assistance, etc.). They need more hands-on guidance from various agencies/individuals to eliminate their numerous barriers.
Tier 3: Individuals considered high need and high risk. They may struggle with barriers from the previous tiers along with housing stability, severe criminal charges that are an obstacle for them in gaining employment, and transportation issues. Generally, these individuals are also confronted with severe mental concerns such as PTSD, insufficient coping/grieving skills, and a lack of a stable support system (family, friends, and/or community).

The Urban Collective will look at crime through a social economic lens to better assist urban areas that have been shaped negatively by society. Social economics is defined as understanding the relationship between social behavior and economics.
The Urban Collective does not feel that kids are born “bad”, they have however, had to make decisions with limited information therefore not being heard, hence muted, but not invisible.
Our goal is to create communities that will become aware of where they fit into Chattanooga’s economy and equip them to become social justice advocates.
We will offer 24/7 therapy and wrap around services from feeding to mentoring. Mentoring has been proven that an hour a week over the course of 52 weeks vows one to make better decisions.
When addressing gun violence, most guns that are used in violent crime are unregistered. Our focus will be to reduce the number of these weapons amongst our city streets.
House of Hope will act as a facility where unregistered weapons can be disposed of anonymously. We will also partner with police in these communities to canvas neighborhoods, knock on doors and provide additional assistance for those who are needing intervention or witness protection. Our goal is to break the silence in these communities and provide witnesses the support they need to come forward.
