Please Describe Your Project In Detail | Faded Barber Company is the only Black Owned barbershop in the downtown business district located inside the historic Clark Center across from the Chattanooga Choo Choo on Market Street. Our sole focus is to incorporate the highest level of diversity inclusion with a family friendly environment while rendering top tier service & quality. Grooming has been labeled an essential service by our government officials, so it's safe to say that ensuring our people of the Scenic City area get the best services possible, is a priority. We not only offer award winning services, but also educate our clientele on the science of healthy hair. With over 20 years of experience its certain our owner can guide hair stylists & entrepreneurs alike throughout their journey. |
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan | Faded Barber Company gives stylists the opportunity to not only be entrepreneurs but witness what it takes to be an owner operator in an establishment they work in daily. We would create jobs for our community & in turn, most times, these stylists step out on their own to embark upon ownership. This would turn into a cyclical replication of the good ole American Worker Way. Get up early, work all day, get off late & repeat the next day. What better city to do this in than Chattanooga. |
Where would your project take place? | Downtown Chattanooga 1463 Market Street suite 106 |
How much will your project cost in total? | 350000 |
Do you have any matching funding sources from other local governments, private entities, non-profits, or philanthropic entities for your project? | No |
Please describe the source and list amounts of any other funding.
What portion of the project are you asking the city to fund?
If funded, when would your project start? | March 1, 2022 |
How long would your project take to complete? | roughly 60-120 days |
What milestones would you use to measure your project’s progress? | 1.Being able to watch new entrepreneurs birthed in our hometown. 2.Owning a Commercial property in downtown Chattanooga creates leverage to scale & franchise 3. The ability to employ & educate multiple people in one space. |
How would you ensure accountability and transparency throughout the project lifecycle? | As owner of the brand & business model, I myself would take on the responsibility of leading the way, seeing that all funds are allocated appropriately & hand selecting all parties involved. I am open to in person or email/phone communication so that everyone remains on the same page & transparent throughout the projects duration. |
If successful, how would your project benefit the community? | This is my favorite part. Being a Chattanooga Native & the first African American graduate of Silverdale Baptist Academy, I know what our town needs per requests of the people. We have a beautiful home in Chattanooga, i.e. why they nicknamed us the Scenic City. Therefore, it is our responsibility as the small business owners of this place to ensure its sturdy foundation. We do this by hiring our own, teaching our own & investing in OUR OWN. Recycling a mentality & lifestyle that will be adapted for generations. |
How will you attract community buy-in for your project? | Being a known supporter of Chattanooga, it is going to catapult us with community attractions. Chattanooga LOVES Chattanooga. Also having much success over the years & servicing celebrity clientele will definitely assist the drawing factor. |
Is there anything else you would like us to know about your project? | The purchase price of our commercial space is $250k. When approved we would complete purchase of the space as we are in an owner finance agreement & utilize the other $100k for marketing & curriculum purposes to increase fluidity of execution. Thank you for your consideration. |
