Please Describe Your Project In Detail | My project requires me to use a computer to upload photos using an up to date photo software that will enable me to design and create graphics. These graphics can be used on household items (plates, cups, doormats, etc.), logos for a new business, a fun t-shirt and pants design, and much more. Once the design has been outlined and uploaded I then will need to gather the materials (iron-on vinyl, puff vinyl, permanent vinyl, heat transfer paper, paints, laminates, wood planks, etc.) to bring the design to life. If going for vinyl I will have to use a cutting machine to cut out the design using the proper materials. If using the heat transfer method I will have to then print the image out using either a white toner printer, Epson printer, or brother printer. Next, I would use a cutting matching to cut out the printed image. Once the image has been cut I then use my weeding tools to remove any access material from the vinyl or transfer paper before grabbing whatever garment is needed. Lastly, I would then press the design on the garment by way of a heat press and after everything is done I will then deliver it to its final destination. |
Please explain how your project meets the requirements of the American Rescue Plan | I began my project because as a single mom I needed to find a way to create income for myself. When covid hit I was working because my job was considered essential but then my children became remote learners and I at that point could not go back to work. Now I have a nursing infant and two school-age children that I have to provide for. I am the sole provider for my children and covid really affected us in a way I didn't think was possible. I had to rely on government assistance to carry us through the months until I could figure out a way to start back up again. I know with the help of funding I can continue my project that will ultimately provide for my children and others once I'm able to start my mentoring program. |
Where would your project take place? | This project will be based out of my home until I can afford a work space building. |
How much will your project cost in total? | 40000 |
Do you have any matching funding sources from other local governments, private entities, non-profits, or philanthropic entities for your project? | No |
Please describe the source and list amounts of any other funding.
What portion of the project are you asking the city to fund?
If funded, when would your project start? | December 13, 2021 |
How long would your project take to complete? | My project will be ongoing with n end date. |
What milestones would you use to measure your project’s progress? | I plan to split my milestones up into quarters. If funded I will use the first two quarters (January-June) for purchasing equipment, getting tax and state documents done properly, and securing marketing. In the last half of my 1st year (3rd and 4th quarter July-December) I plan on heavily outsourcing on social media to entice sales. I also plan on using the second half to be a part of vendor expos to get my name and company out there for greater success. After a successful 1st year during my second year is when I will then implement my mentoring program so that more families can learn how to earn another source of income. |
How would you ensure accountability and transparency throughout the project lifecycle? | I would show accountability throughout the lifecycle of my project by being clear on what needs to be done and by staying on task. Once my outline is complete I will be able to do daily check-ins to help me further stay on task to get to my end goal. Throughout the lifecycle of my project, it will also be extremely important for me to be transparent so that the BIG PICTURE is always made clear and that I understand the core values I have set in place so that I am always able to push forward. |
If successful, how would your project benefit the community? | If successful my project will benefit the community because I want to take everything that I have learned (the good and the bad) and train others to do what I'm doing. That way they can get on their feet and have a new source of income to feed themselves and their families. |
How will you attract community buy-in for your project? | I will attract community buy-in for my project by showing how fun it is to bring your designs and other people's design to life. I will also show that although fun it can be lucrative as well. Lastly, I think it's important that I show how people can stop trading time for money building someone else's dream when they can embark on building their own and having fun in the process. |
Is there anything else you would like us to know about your project? | In conclusion, I want to add that if granted funding my project will not only change my life but change the lives of others as well. I know this may be a bit off-topic but my whole life I knew I was destined to help others whether it was big or small I wanted to help. With your help, I can help not only myself but others in a major way. I plan to live up to my potential and continue to push forward so that I can really break patterns and set lives on different paths. I'm nervous, actually very nervous but I know that just means I'm heading in the right direction. Also, I would like to thank whoever is taking the time out to view my application I really appreciate all your time. |
